Clerkship Electives

Electives (UWO Students)

Elective rotations are available in any of London's 3 Emergency Departments. Please contact the Undergraduate Coordinator for times and availability.

  • An ACLS course is provided for entire class at the end of January of the 4th year, just prior to the beginning of the Transition Block.
  • During the Transition period in fourth year an elective in principles of Emergency Medicine is offered to interested students. This is a series of four, three hour sessions, each case-based with a practical skill component. These sessions are taught in small group format with topics of Trauma, Acute Shortness of Breath, Shock and Chest Pain

Electives (Students from outside UWO)

Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry - Visiting Student Electives Program

Students from outside UWO with an interest in Emergency Medicine are encouraged to come to UWO for an elective in Emergency Medicine or a related field. Those students interested in the Royal College Emergency Medicine residency are particularly encouraged.

Visiting students are scheduled to work weekday day (0800 - 1600) or evening (1600 - 2400h) shifts at either the University Campus or Victoria Campus (South Street) sites of the London Health Sciences Centre. Should students wish, they may be able to work some shifts at the Emergency Department of the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario. Elective students are not expected to work night shifts or weekends but may do so if they wish. The Division has active faculty members in critical care and trauma services that would be willing to have students spend time with them as well.

Visiting students are also welcome to participate in structured residency program learning activities such as core content, grand rounds and journal club.
